Scott names secretaries to DMS, DCF

Former CIGNA senior director Jack Miles will lead the Department of Management Services. David Wilkins, finance chief of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, will lead the Department of Children and Families. The Miami Herald reported Scott and Wilkins share a resemblance, at least on paper: Both are “corporate executives with conservative social roots.” Scott has hired nine secretaries so far, and 16 remain.

Bondi names Tampa native to staff

Attorney Richard Lawson, experienced in white collar criminal defense, commercial litigation and general criminal defense, will be Attorney General Pam Bondi’s economic crimes director.

New faces at Associated Industries of Florida, Cardenas Partners

The AIF is bringing in Brewster Bevisas, senior director of legislative affairs for the National Association of Builders and Contractors, to be its vice president of external affairs. He was formerly an aide to former Congresswoman Katherine Harris and a U.S. Department of Labor legislative officer. He will lobby the Legislature as part of AIF’s new political team. Leading that team will be Ryan Tyson, former campaign manager and chief legislative aide to Sen. Charlie Dean. He is AIF’s new vice president of political operations. AIF’s political team also includes Steven Shiver of The Advocacy Group at Cardenas Partners.

While we’re on Cardenas Partners: The lobbying firm last week hired Lanny Wiles, Scott’s campaign advance man and husband to campaign manager Susie Wiles. According to Cardenas Partners, his areas of expertise will include energy, pharmaceuticals, defense technologies, not-for-profits, agricultural matters, professional sports tax issues, aviation policy and transportation modes.

New legislative affairs directors

Darrick McGhee moves from leading legislative affairs at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to the Department of Education. Filling his place at DBPR is Tim Nungesser, a Scott transition team member and former RPOF staffer.

DOT hires FSU grad for communications slot

Eric Carr, a 2010 Florida State University graduate and former Scott campaign Pensacola/West Florida field director, has joined the Department of Transportation’s communications department.
